By Mark Lawrence

In the attic of Rosser Thrash’s Summerville home sits a small
box—about the size of the ones that mail–order fruitcakes are shipped
in.

It is filled with programs, press clippings, and some financial records
from the early years of the Sertoma Football Classic in Charleston that

The 49th Annual Richland Sertoma Club Sportsarama kicks off area football season

A Columbia Star Story and Photos by Mike Maddock

Richland Sertoma Club's Sportsarama 2009 kicked off the start of the
high school football season for eight area schools. Teams from Swansea,
C.A. Johnson, Lower Richland, Eau Claire, Dreher, A.C. Flora, Keenan,
and Columbia took to the field on a slightly rainy night at Benedict
College's Charlie Johnson Stadium Saturday, August 15. Each match- up
consisted of two 10- minute halves. Kick- offs and punts were not
allowed to be returned, and there was no rush allowed on field goals,
point after attempts, or punts. Read more
